Water Protection Project Funded in Montgomery County

26 County Conservation Districts Received Funding to Promote Water Pollution Prevention Strategies across Pennsylvania

Montgomery County Conservation District received $2000 to install a demonstration rain garden on Perkiomen Township property and then host a rain garden tour and pollution prevention workshop.

With this grant money, the district will have the opportunity to educate local residents on how they can make a difference in their own community to ensure enough clean water for future generations.

The district and Perkiomen Township will work with students from nearby Perkiomen Valley High School to create the design for the garden, which will also be used as an outdoor classroom.  The district expects this design to be finalized in the fall, with the garden to be built in early spring of next year.  All residents will be invited to attend the rain garden tour and pollution prevention workshop next April.

Thirty water protection projects will be funded in 26 of the state’s counties. Other projects include agricultural field days, rain barrel workshops, stormwater tours and more. For a complete listing of awarded projects, visit http://goo.gl/xw3RBm.

Financial and other support for this project is provided by the Pennsylvania Association of Conservation Districts, Inc. (PACD) through a grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection under Section 319 of the Clean Water Act, administered by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
